The Youth Wings of TRC and Bishan Community Club IAEC collaborated together once again to organise the National Literacy Competitions for the 5th Year. The preliminary rounds were held in July and the grand finals on 17 August 2013.
The competitions consisted of story-telling for primary schools and oratorical competition for secondary schools. Response was so good that registration had to be closed in May 2013. More than 290 students from about 66 schools participated in the preliminary rounds. Tamil Language teachers from the various Junior Colleges supported by sitting in as Judges.
The finals saw 15 (Primary) and 10 (Secondary) participants in each competition and was witnessed by a crowd of about 250. Mr T Venugopal (Head, Tamil Language Unit, Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education), Mr Sabamuthu Nadarajan (Head, Tamil Radio News, Mediacorp), Mr R Nadarasan (Head, Tamil TV News, Mediacorp) and Mr A Palaniappan (Head Specialist (Languages) (English/Tamil), Language Services Department, Parliament of Singapore) were the Judges for the Finals.

தேசிய தமிழ் இலக்கிய போட்டிகள்
தமிழர் பேரவை இளையர் மன்றமும் பீஷான் இந்திய நற்பணி செயற்குழுவும் இணைந்து ஐந்தாவது முறையாக தேசிய தமிழ் இலக்கிய போட்டிகளுக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தன.
தொடக்கப்பள்ளி மாணவர்களுக்கு கதை சொல்லும் போட்டியும் உயர்நிலைப்பள்ளி மாணவர்களுக்கு பேச்சுப்போட்டியும் நடைப்பெற்றன. சுமார் 100 பள்ளிகளிலிருந்து 250-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மாணவர்கள் தேர்வுச்சுற்றில் பங்கெடுத்தனர்.
தமிழர் பேரவையின் தலைவர் டாக்டர் ஆர் தேவேந்திரன் இறுதிச்சுற்றில் கலந்துகொண்டு வெற்றியாளர்களுக்கு பரிசளித்தார்.
