FUN @ LIBRARY
As part of the Tamil Language Festival, National Library Board (NLB) collaborated with the Tamils Representative Council (TRC) and Sirpigal for the successful run of the Fun@Library programme for the third time.
This programme was catered for upper primary and lower secondary students and allowed them to learn Tamil in a fun manner at a casual environment such as the public libraries. Ms Manemegalai, a librarian gave a talk on the Indian Library Services while Mr Narayanan, a drama enthusiast spoke on writing dialogues for Tamil dramas.
Students from 7 schools were divided into groups to participate in one of the hands on session. This also provided opportunity to make new friends. One of the activities was to watch a short movie clip with a cliffhanger in the iPad and getting the groups to write the ending and presenting it . The other one was to watch a muted video clip and write dialogues for it and provide dubbing voices as the clip was played on the screen.
Hence, the programme also promoted interest in the Tamil language through new technology and exposed them to opportunities to speak, write and read in Tamil. Top 5 teams won book vouchers. The students enjoyed participating in the fun and innovative activities and the teachers gave good feedback as well.
