கதை முதல் நாடகம் வரை                                         

சிற்பிகள் மன்றத்தின் வாசகர் வட்டம் ஆண்டுக்கு இரு முறை சந்தித்து வாசிப்போம்! சிங்கப்பூர் இயக்கத்திற்காக தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் சிறுகதையை கலந்துரையாடும். அந்த வரிசையில் செம்டெம்பர் 23-ஆம் தேதி 'பயாஸ்கோப்காரனும் வான்கோழிகளும்' என்ற கதை அலசி ஆராயப்பட்டது.

கலந்துரையாடலுக்கு முன்பாக கதைக்குத் தொடர்பான பயனுள்ள நடவடிக்கையை ஏற்பாடு செய்வது வழக்கம். இக்கதைமாந்தரில் ஒருவர் தெருக்கூத்து பாடகர் என்பதால், அதன் நவீன வடிவான நாடகப்பட்டறைக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது. இவண் நாடகக்குழுவை சேர்ந்த திரு எஸ் என் வி நாராயணன் ஒரு கதை எப்படி நாடகமாக உருவாகிறது, காதாபாத்திரங்களின் தன்மைகளை எப்படி ஆராய்வது என பல குறிப்புகளை பகிர்ந்துகொண்டார். சில உறுப்பினர்கள் காதாபாத்திரங்களாகவே மாறி மற்றவர்களின் சரமாரியான கேள்விகளுக்கு பதில் கூறியது மிக சுவாரஸ்யமாக அமைந்தது. சிறந்த பங்கெடுப்புக்காக மூவருக்கு பரிசுகள் வழங்கப்பட்டன.

அதனை தொடர்ந்து தேசிய நூலக வாரியத்தின் நிர்வாகி திரு கே எஸ் மணியம் புத்தக கலந்துரையாடலை வழிநடத்தினார். நட்பின் பெருமையை பற்றியும் நட்பிற்காக ஒருவர் எது வரை செல்வார் என்பது பற்றியும் உறுப்பினர்கள் தங்கள் சொந்த அனுபவங்களை மனம் திறந்து பகிர்ந்து கொண்டார்கள்.

Sirpigal Reading Club meets twice a year to discuss the Tamil short stories selected for Read! Singapore. On 23 September, the club met to discuss the ‘Bioscope Man and Turkeys’ story. Mr SNV Narayanan from Ivann Theatre conducted a drama workshop just before the discussion. He shared about how a story is turned into a drama and how to learn more about the characters. The highlight of the workshop was when some members took the persona of the characters and answered rapid fire questions from members. Three members were given prizes for best participation. This was followed by the book discussion which was led by Mr K S Maniam, manager of National Library Board. Members opened their hearts on how important friendship is and how far one would go for the sake of friendship.
