In conjunction with the Tamil Language Festival, Tamils representative Council, Sirpigal and National Library Board organized the Fun@Library event for 100 primary and secondary school students on 15 April 2011 at the Tampines Regional Library. The objective of the event was to make the students aware of the Indian library services and make better use of these tools for their school projects and also to see Tamil as a fun language to learn.

Students learnt more about the Ask inquiry service as well as to how to search for Tamil titles. They also learnt Tamil words and proverbs in a fun way through word games co-ordinated by NLB. Through this, they were more aware of the Tamil equivalents to simple English words and consciously made effort to process their thoughts in Tamil. All winners were presented with book vouchers. There was great support from students who eagerly participated in the games segment.

Students were treated to lively dances by members of Sirpigal. M Kunaseakanan, PB, PBS, President, Sirpigal and youth volunteer Ms Yoges spoke about Sirpigal’s objectives and the various volunteerism programmes undertaken. Notably Sirpigal’s involvement in “Utsav” and Read Marathon were highlighted. Ms Yoges also mentioned about how she enjoyed dancing for residents at the old folks homes. Mr Kunaseakanan informed that volunteerism work is a passion and it has been a good way to keep youth occupied and keep them away from risks.
